"Tying the Knot"

This is a fun way to symbolize the strength of your union. The couple ties a fisherman's knot with cord of their choice. The fisherman's knot "gets stronger under pressure" and a commentary is read to this affect is read while the couple ties their knot. It is used after the exchange of vows and rings. The couple keeps the cord in their home as a symbolic remembrance of their special day.

“Handfasting"

The original meaning behind “Tying the knot"

I coach the couple through obtaining their cords and the meanings to make this a completely memorable experience.  There are a couple of options for handfastings... they are very spiritual. As the ceremony starts, the officiant then invites the couple to join hands, which symbolizes their free will to enter into the marriage. Many opt to cross hands, or hold hands.  You could also opt to stand next to one another, joining one of your right hands with the other's left, and have your hands bound that way, around your wrists. It’s up to the couple on how they wish to be hand fasted. The couple keeps the cords as a sweet memory in their home.  I have ceremony material which invoke the four elements, or a simple hand fasting ceremony can be done. If you chose this option we would work closely together to make it just as you like

These rituals are suggestions if you are looking to add something to your ceremony.
